Gayle Ann “Little Bit” Roach was born July 26, 1966, to the late James and Mary Johnson. Gayle was the youngest of thirteen. Better known to family and friends as Little Bit, she loved her family and friends very much and would do anything she could for them. She was very protective of her twin sister, Dayle “Bigbit” Atkins. So protective, Bigbit had to remind Little Bit several times she was the oldest by 5 minutes.
At an early age, the family lost their mother and Gayle’s older sisters stepped in to raise her and the younger siblings. Gayle moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she received her education, then as an adult she moved back to Camden, South Carolina. Where she met and married her husband, Steven Roach. God had already blessed Gayle with her beautiful daughter, Tiresha.
If you knew Little Bit, you knew she loved and enjoyed cooking. She had many positions throughout her career, but she loved working at Huddle House and Gadgets of Camden for many years until her health no longer allowed her to work; but this did not stop her from getting up every morning to cook her baby breakfast and call her in the early hours to come eat. Everyone in the family knew to call on Gayle when they were having an event so she could help cook. Thanksgiving dinner will not be the same because that was Little Bit’s time to shine and show her talents.
On the evening of January 18, 2020, while with family and friends, Little Bit said she was ready to go home. Not knowing she was talking about her heavenly home. At 6:36 PM, God whisper in Little Bit’s ear and told her it was time for her to gain her wings and rest. Although none of us were ready to say good-bye, Gayle grabbed her skillet and took off to cook for the Lord for all eternity.
