Albertus Rufus, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Albertus “Jay” Rufus, Jr., the son of the late Albertus, Sr., and Estell-Luckey Rufus, was born in Lee County, SC on March 8, 1942. He entered into eternal rest on October 10, 2019 at Mikash at Shallowford in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Jay was an active senior, a loving, caring, and fun person who was loved and respected by many. He was educated in the Lee County Public School System. At an early age, Jay joined the Spring Hill United Methodist Church, Rembert, SC. After leaving South Carolina, he resided in Southeast Washington D.C., where he was a diehard Washington Redskins Fan.  He lived in D.C. until his health declined and his daughter, Peggy, moved him to Georgia, where she could see after him.  

Jay was preceded in death by a brother, Henry “Ray” Rufus; sisters, Shirley (John) Heriot, Mary Alice Rufus, Johnnie Mae Caldwell-White and Beaulah Mae Martin; mother and father who raised him, Johnnie and Louise Caldwell; two sons, Jason
Rufus and Aaron Rufus.

Jay leaves to cherish his memories, teaching and legacy: his spouse, Betty Brown-Rufus of Washington, DC; daughters, Gloria Johnson of Bishopville, SC, Peggy Graham of Mableton, GA, Takish Finklea of Norfolk, VA, Melba (Lamont) Jones and Tonya (Tim) Smith, both of Baltimore, Maryland, Arlethia Brown of Washington, DC; a son, Michael Pinkney of Rochester, NY; siblings: sisters, Irene B. Green of Camden, SC, Luvenia (Richard) Dix of Bishopville, SC, Jannie Johnson of Camden, SC, Christine (James) McDaniel of Jonesboro, GA, Lula Mack of Dalzell, SC, Dorothy Michael of Dalzell, SC, Bethel (Bobby) Stuckey of Dalzell, SC; brother-in-law, Jerome White of Dalzell, SC; two uncles, George (Gail) Luckey, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC and Raymond (Audrey) Luckey of Bowie, MD; one aunt, Francine Luckey (Larry) West of Fort Washington, MD; Jay’s niece and nephews that he stayed with while visiting SC, Mary (Wilton) Hickman, Terry “Eddie” Heriot, Richard (Carolyn) Heriot, and Shirley (Tryrone) Joe, all of Rembert, SC, Leroy Martin of Sumter, SC; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
