Carol Jones Obituary

Mrs. Carol Ellis-Jones was born in Camden, South Carolina to the late Mr. Sam Ellis and Mrs. Carolyn Marie Reid Ellis.  Mrs. Ellis-Jones entered eternal rest on December 23, 2019 at Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Mr. Michael Jones, her parents Mr. Sam and Mrs. Carolyn Ellis, and her sisters Mrs. Corrine Yvette Ellis Portee and Mrs. Terry Denise Ellis Lawson.  Carol was educated in the Kershaw County Public School System where she graduated from Camden High School in 1979.  Sis. Carol attended Pace University in White Plains, New York where she received her certificate in Home Health.  She used her certification and love for people as an employee of Peoples Care in New York.  After returning to Camden, South Carolina she was employed by Camden City Laundry.

Sis. Carol’s passion and purpose was serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in whatever capacity she was needed and wherever she was called to go!  While residing in New York, Sis. Carol joined The Will of the Master Deliverance Ministry in Mt. Vernon, New York where she served as a Missionary and member of the Praise Team.  Upon relocating to her hometown, she reaffirmed her faith and renewed her life-long membership at Good Hope Wesley Chapel UMC (GHWC) in Camden, South Carolina.  At GHWC, she used her soulful singing voice, her gifts for teaching and preaching, and her desire to learn more about Jesus to glorify God and to edify His people.  She was a faithful member of the Gospel Choir, Wednesday Night Bible Study Fellowship know as the Hour of Power Experience (H.O.P.E), the Ladies of Ultimate Praise Dance, the Homebound Communion Stewards Ministry, and she was the founding member of the pulpit aid ministry which she named: Disciple Bearers for Jesus!  Through study and dedication, Sis. Carol earned the distinction of a Certified Lay Servant in The United Methodist Church.  In her role as Certified Lay Servant, Sis. Carol served as Sunday School Teacher, Worship Leader, Scripture Reader, Children’s Sermon Preacher, and Proclaimer of God’s Word when called upon by her Pastor.

She leaves to cherish her memory and to continue her legacy of love: her children, Ms. Takeisha L. Ellis (New York), Mr. Teolynsky L. Ellis (Virginia), Ms. Clarissa Langston (the Home); her beloved grandchildren Miss Jadarae Ellis and Miss Skylar Brown; her sisters Mrs. Mary Hagins (Rev. Lenroy) and Ms. Felicia Ellis; her brothers Mr. Christopher Ellis, Jimmie Ellis, Sammie Ellis; her brother-in-law Mr. James Portee, and a special brother and sister, Mr. Gregory Thomas; and three special sisters-in-Christ the Reverend Angela Ford Nelson - her pastor and Minister Patricia Figueroa – her prayer partner, and Sis. Dorothy Cole Jones – a life-long friend; her aunts Ms. Diane Reid Thomas, Mrs. Edith Reid Drakeford, Mrs. Mary Reid Staggers; “aunties” Mrs. Sara Ellis and Mrs. Mary Smallwood and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and beloved sisters and brothers-in-Christ.
