Isabella Knight was born August 18, 1929, in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Mattie and Jervey Knight. Isabella was the second born of seven children, including siblings Dora Lewis, Jervey Knight Jr., Mary Spann, Roy Knight, and Hampton Knight, who all preceded her in death. Alberta Brodie, her remaining sibling, lives in Aurora, Colorado.
Mama chose Spanish names for all of the girls: Dora, Isabella, Mary, and Alberta -- all named after aunts or other relatives.
Isabella graduated from Mather Academy, a private high school in Camden, then attended college at Virginia State University. After graduation, at a time when many young women returned to the shelter of home, Isabella demonstrated her live long independence by moving to New York City, where she worked with the Social Security Administration, and soon became a manager. She retired after a long and distinguished career.
Isabella always considered New York and Camden as her dual homes, spending a lot of time in both places. She was well liked by everyone who knew her, and she enjoyed traveling and living her life on her own terms. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, who loved her as much as she loved them.
We will always remember and love her as she loved us for all these many years.
Isabella, you may rest in peace now. Your family misses you.
