Mary Arden Belle Johnson of Elgin, SC, ended her battle at home surrounded by the people who loved her on December 3rd, 2018. She was born, August 9th, 1936, in Stratford, CT, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arnold and Marguerite Belle.
She was preceded in death by her five, older siblings: Grace (Goodsell Powell), Lilli-an, Austin (Aubrey Belle), Alfred (Charlotte Belle) and Arnold Jr.
She spent 20 years traveling the world with her former husband, Lloyd Johnson (Virginia), as a part of their military service. They had three children through their union: Bonnie (Staffon Ray), Loren (Renaldo Sears), and David (Cathy). She also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Throughout her life, she has made many friends and a difference in her work as a CNA. She also held a number of part-time jobs (One being at Joanne Fabric’s where she bought up all the yarn and fabric on sale.) As an adolescent, she taught herself to knit which served as the starting point for many of her hobbies including gardening, baking, puzzling, crocheting and, ultimately, designing clothes. Everything she did was with excellence and dedication. Despite her sometimes stern exterior, she had an unrestrained delight in all things bright and beautiful— from Christmas, to amusement parks and movies.
She leaves behind a legacy of persistence, courage and good humor.
