Alonzo Garvin, son of the late Lizzie B Cramer Garvin, was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on August 17, 1923. He peacefully departed this earth on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his home.
Alonzo and his siblings (Ashby, Mertis, and Thelma) were reared by their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Hettie Ashe Cramer Sims. As a young man, Alonzo moved to New York and was married to the late Minnie Adamson Garvin. He was employed by and retired from The New York Times after four decades of service. He and his dear friend, Dorothy Adamson, relocated to Camden, SC later in life, where he remained until his death.
