Barbara Ann Johnson was born on September 13, 1950, to Josephine Williams in Camden, South Carolina. Barbara was called home into eternal life on Monday, November 22, 2021.
She was a loving and willing servant of the Lord which led her to put her love for family before her education. Barbara attended school in Camden, South Carolina but left school during her high school years to be a caretaker for her great grandmother. She later realized the importance of education and therefore decided to obtain her Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED).
Her mother relocated the family to Brooklyn, New York when Barbara was a young girl. She spent her young adult years in New York where she worked at Macy’s Department Store. Upon her return to Camden, Barbara was employed by the Kershaw County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs as Workshop Supervisor. After many years, she followed her heart and moved to Robbins, North Carolina where she was employed by Moore County Group Homes. Barbara yearned to be closer to her daughter, her only living sibling (Leon), and her close friends so she moved back to Camden. She was briefly employed by the Kershaw Correctional Institution in Kershaw, South Carolina. Her love for people and her caretaker heart led her back to working with individuals with disabilities and special needs. After 10 years, she retired after working as an Instructional Assistant in the Special Needs class at Camden Elementary School.
Barbara dedicated her life to being a great mother, a loving grandmother, and a supportive friend! She spent much of her free time with her grandson, fur babies – her cat Jewel and her dog Alex and her friends. She loved being outside planting flowers and doing yardwork. Barbara was a social butterfly who never met a stranger!
Barbara was preceded in death by her mother Josephine Williams-Wilson and stepfather Irving Wilson; her great grandmother Sallie Bowens; her grandmother Beatrice Williams; her aunts WillieBell Earle and Rosalee Major; her uncle Nathaniel Williams; and her siblings Leon Wilson, Nancy Wilson, and Sammie Wilson.
Left to cherish her precious memories: her son, Wayne Williams; her loving daughter, Stephanie Johnson; her grandson who she adored, Jaden Hayes; her other family and friends.
