Bessie Williams Obituary

Bessie G. Williams was born on June 13, 1961, in Sumter County, South Carolina. She was daughter of the late Johnnie Alston and Thelma Graham.  A loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend, she entered into eternal rest Monday, January 11, 2021, at Kershaw County Medical Center, Camden, South Carolina.

Bessie was educated in Lee County Public School System and graduated from Ashwood Central High School in 1979 and briefly attend Columbia Junior College in Columbia, SC.
  
Bessie was raised in a Christian home and joined Pine Grove AME at an early age. She was an active member of the Pine Grove Usher Board, Pine Grove Inspirational Choir, Pine Grove Finance Department and the P.I.C.K Ladies Community Club.  Prior to the decline of her health, she was employed by First Baptist Church Childcare Center of Camden, SC.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Williams. 

Although Bessie she had no children of her own, she was a fervent nurture of other’s children.  Her love of children and their well-being was her ultimate passion.  She spent many years caring for the children of families in the Kershaw County area. Notably, Lucas, Clark (Bubba!), Nellie, Lillie and Jack (Bobby and Paula Joseph), Mackey, John and Emily (Dan and Daphne Cantey), Allen she called him “Bubba” too! (Dan and Lucy Robinson), Jennings (David Ham and Cordia Varney), Ann Ellis and McRae (John and Jennifer Boykin), George and Walt (Kristin and Matt Nettles), Ryland and Palmer (Sarah and Phillip Nettles), Wren and Reeves (Sarah and Josh Wilson), Clayton and Annabelle (Jennifer and Jay Stegner), Riggs and Annabelle (Mitchell and Katie Cooper).
  
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving sisters, Rosa Graham Holiday and Patricia Graham Holiday both of Rembert, SC; her devoted brothers, James Graham, Thomas (Linder) Graham, John (Earline) Graham and Steve (Dorothy) Graham all of Rembert, SC and Charles Wilson of Dalzell, SC; her beloved William (Frances) Graham of Camden, SC and Harry McLeod of Rembert, SC; her mother-in-law, Ms. Elease McCord Williams of Camden, SC; brother-in-law, Clyde (Doris) Williams of Columbia, SC; three sisters-in-law, Ellen Nelson of Lugoff, SC, Mary Crowell of Detroit, MI and Dianne (Ricky) Miller of Rembert, SC, one aunt, Magnolia Graham of Baltimore, MD.  Bessie also has a host of loving and caring nieces and nephews that loved her deeply, especially her nephew/son, Orvin Holiday; and three god-children, Justin Rufus, Katlyn Stevens and Taylor Holiday.
