Curtis McHerrin, Jr. was born on December 19, 1950, to Curtis and Henrietta (Smith) McHerrin, Sr., in Buffalo, New York.
He was educated in the Buffalo Public Schools and graduated from Bennett High School in 1969. It was nothing to see Curtis running through the neighborhood or at Delaware Park. Curtis’s other pastimes included bicycle riding and roller skating.
In 1998, Curtis relocated to Columbia, South Carolina to be closer to his sister. Here he met and connected with people who like him had Multiple Sclerosis. While a member of the Multiple Sclerosis support group he met Darlene Simmons and they were married on November 27th, 1998.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his oldest sister, Sandra.
