William Skinner Jr. was born in Rembert, South Carolina on August 8, 1932, and was the eldest child of the late William Skinner Sr. and Maggie Grant Skinner. He exchanged time for eternity on October 8, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family.
William married Mary Alice Williams and their union of over 69 years welcomed 9 children and over 100 grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. William enjoyed sharing his love of baseball with them and watching them participate in sports. He also enjoyed holidays and special events at home with his family.
William accepted and received Christ as his personal Savior and was a member of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board, gospel choir and senior choir. William, also known as Pound, loved going fishing, hunting with his favorite dogs Red and Joe, taking care of his horse Lipstick, caring for his garden, and umpiring local baseball games. He was a huge 521 All-Stars and Atlanta Braves fan. William enjoyed watching western movies and his favorite shows, Perry Mason and Bonanza. He loved receiving chocolate candy and cakes for Father’s Day and truly believed in helping others.
He leaves to cherish his memory his caregiver and loving daughter, Victoria English of the home; sons, William (Joyce) Skinner of Augusta, Georgia, James (Delores) Skinner, Larry (Mary) Skinner, and Anthony (Julia) Skinner all of Rembert, South Carolina, Kenneth (Carolyn) Skinner of Savannah, Georgia and Eric (Latoya) Skinner of Temple, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sallie Skinner of Sumter, South Carolina; a grandson, Brian Skinner raised in the home; sisters, Pauline James and Maggie Skinner, both of Rembert, South Carolina, brother Elijah (Marion) Skinner of Rembert, South Carolina, in-laws Barbara Stratford, Betty McFarlane, Diane Williams, Sandra Dawson, Mary Carter, Heyward Williams Jr., Samuel (Williemae) Williams, Hazel (Marie) Williams, James Williams, John Williams and Calvin (Lenni) Williams, special cousin and friend Harrison Buck Grant and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family members and friends.
William was preceded in death by his faithful wife of 69 years, Mary Alice Skinner, parents, William and Maggie Skinner, brother Sam (Ethel) Skinner, sister Sallie Bennett, children Harvey Skinner and JoAnn Skinner, grandchildren William Billy Skinner, Larry F. Skinner and Cassandra Dale Dixon, brother-in-law Fred James and son-in-law, Sammie English.
