Dr. Naoma Crisp-Lindgren Obituary

Dr. Naoma Crisp-Lindgren was born on March 25, 1946, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to the late Robert Crisp and Verna M. Miller and departed this life on August 4, 2021.

Dr. Crisp-Lindgren, a true trailblazer, and an inspiration to all, set the bar so high that many of us will need two lifetimes to accomplish what she did at the young age of 75. She graduated in June 1968 from Valparaiso University in Indiana with a BA in Social Work and History, and a minor in Psychology. Against the grain, when women were only accepted at a ratio of one to three percent into medical school in the United States - Dr. Crisp-Lindgren moved to Germany, learned German fluently, and graduated from the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover in May 1981. At the end of September 1984, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren finished her German residency in Pathology and Internal Medicine/Nephrology. Selflessly, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren returned to the States following her German residencies so that she and her son may be closer to the family. In October 1984, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren became a resident pathologist at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and graduated in December 1988. As an accomplished pathologist, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren started a second residency in Psychiatry at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and graduated in January 1994. In addition to the extraordinary aforementioned accomplishments, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren raised her son, Bryce Robert Lindgren, as a single mother.

Immediately following her psychiatry residency, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren opened a private practice in Wichita, Kansas for five and half years. She sold her practice in June 1999, and relocated to Florence, South Carolina and practiced as a Senior Psychiatrist at Pee Dee Mental Health. Prior to her Medical Directorship from October 2004 to September 2006 at Marlboro Park Hospital, Dr. Crisp-Lindgren was in private practice from January 2002 to October 2004. The last 13 years of Dr. Crisp-Lindgren’s psychiatry legacy was as a locum’s physician in South Carolina.

Dr. Crisp-Lindgren is survived by her son, Bryce Robert Lindgren, and granddaughter, Brylee Danielle Lindgren. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Nancy Heim-Berg; brother-in-law, Danny Berg; nieces, nephews, and many friends that she considered family.
