John W. Robinson Jr., our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend was born October 20, 1942, to the late John and Lethia Robinson in Camden, South Carolina. He attended the public school system of Camden, South Carolina and upon moving to Buffalo, New York, he graduated from East High School and graduated from Bryant-Stratton with an associate degree in business.
After graduating from Bryant-Stratton, he moved to Bronx, New York and later to Brooklyn, New York. He obtained employment with Bankers Trust and worked with this company until his retirement.
John joined the Bridge Street AME Church and was an active member for over 50 years. He served as a Junior Steward, Joint Board President of Ushers, President and Chaplain of the Male’s Usher Board, President and member of the South Carolina Club, member of the Relief Society, and a member of the Arthur Fund Lay Society. A strong believer in social justice, he was a member of the National Action Network (NAN) and participated in demonstrations and marches. Upon retiring, John visited Camden regularly and decided to become a member of Good Hope Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed participating in the morning worship and had joined the Male Usher Board.
Some of his favorite pastimes were dancing, going on bus trips and outings, and playing bingo.
John was preceded in death by his two sisters, Patricia Robinson and Barbara Dickerson.
He leaves to mourn his precious memories, his wife and friend Jo Ann; his adored son, John, daughter-in-law, Melissa, four grandchildren, Aza, Nassor, Khari, and Haydara; four brothers, Frank (Pinease)Robinson, Jerry (Mary) Robinson, Rev. Leroy (Elvenia) Robinson, and Tom (Iris) Robinson; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Washington and Sara Turk; a brother-in-law, Charles (Ernestine) Warren; an aunt, Eva Daniels; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
