Leon (Bubba) Salmond was born November 5, 1935, to Charlotte M. Haile and Isaac Salmond, Jr., in Charlotte Thompson Community in Camden, South Carolina. He attended St. Matthew School. He worked for Ray Wolf at an early age. He also worked with the Racing Association until he retired. He also worked for the State of South Carolina. He was raised in a Christian home. He was also a confirmed Catholic before being converted and joining Broom Hill Baptist Church. He belonged to the Masonic Composite Lodge 372. He was also on the male chorus of Broom Hill Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Leon loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded into death by his mother, Charlotte M. Salmond; father, Isaac Salmond, Jr.; wife, Easter M. Salmond; sisters, Reverend Elouise Goodwin, Maria Goodwin, Rachel Leah Salmond, Esther Salmond, and Charlotte W. Salmond; grandson, Robert Salmond whom he loved very dearly, and sister-in-law, Deloris M. Salmond.
Leon (Bubba) Salmond departed this life on November 11, 2022, at MUSC Providence Hospital. He was with all his children and grandchildren.
Leon is survived by his one daughter, Easter Vanessa Slater; two sons, Leon Salmond, Jr. and Isaac Salmond; one granddaughter, Nancy Salmond; one daughter-in-law, Gail Salmond; son-in-law, Bernard Slater; four surviving brothers, Isaac Salmond III, George Salmond, Bishop Henry Salmond, and Eugene Salmond; six sisters-in-law, Irma Salmond, Carolyn Salmond, Wilhelmina Salmond, Dorothy Hollman, Christine Gathers, and Sabrina Myers; and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.
