Willie DuBose Obituary

Wilie Thomas DuBose was born on November 30, 1933, in Cassatt, South Carolina, to his loving parents, the late Willie and Hattie-Mary DuBose.  WIllie was the sixth of their seven children: Nora, Lula Mae, Dalton and Raspberry (all preceded him in death) Kate and Priscilla.

Willie attended the public schools of Kershaw County, South Carolina.  He was diligent and hard worker who embodied the southern characteristics of being, a honest, family oriented and God-fearing.  He was a good man who was loved by everyone.

Willie was married to the late Tillie (Jannie) DuBose on December 15, 1952.  They enjoyed sixty-five years of wedded bliss.  Willie and his family moved up north to seek better employment opportunities and provisions for his family.   He had several jobs in New Jersey and Connecticut for a short period of time.  With more experience and tenacity, Willie developed long lasting roots in Brooklyn, New York.  He worked for the New York City Department of Education as an environmental technician for over twenty-five until retirement.

He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior under the tutelage of Bishop Clarence Louis Sexton at Mt. Sinai Cathedral COGIC.  Willie and his family relocated back to Lugoff, SC, where he and his family joined Saint Mark COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Shelly Hardy, Jr.  He served faithfully as a Deacon and as Chairman of the Trustees.  Willie was a quiet man who enjoyed watching wrestling on television and listening to quartet gospel and Bishop G. E. Patterson.

Willie and Tillie's union produced seven children, fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  They worked together and made an indelible and unmatched impact on their community by taking in many children in their lifetime as their own.

After a long illness and several miraculous recoveries, on Sunday, June 28, 2020, our angel, Willie Thomas DuBose gained his wings.  He entered from a life of labor into his well-deserved rest.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie (Jannie) DuBose and a daughter, Patricia Ann DuBose

Willie is survived six children, Christopher DuBose (Shauntise), Paris Cuttino (Rodney), Odessa DuBose, Rocky DuBose (Jessica McCoy), Melvin DuBose and Joseph DuBose (Justine); two siblings, Kate Green and Priscilla Salmond; one sister-in-law, Shirley Turner; two brothers-in-law, Levi Turner and Barry Raskin; fifteen grandchildren; Precious DuBose, MIchelle DuBose, Sara DuBose, Christopher DuBose, Jr., Alyssa DuBose, Jayden DuBose, Taj-Shaneek Cuttino, Shalanda Cuttino, Ra'Quiez DuBose, Amani DuBose, Kimya DuBose, Kaylee DuBose, Melvin DuBose, Jr., Jayla Benson DuBose and Jamal DuBose; two great grandchildren, Tamari DuBose and Tanlya DuBose and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
