Reverend Wyatt Clifton Minton, III, was born to the late Major Wyatt Clifton Jr. and Ruby Wright Minton March 12, 1960, in Fort Sheridan Illinois. Born to a military family, Wyatt lived in several places while growing up. He graduated from Camden High School in 1978 and is a 1982 graduate of Limestone College. He received his theological education at Duke University Divinity School, graduating in 1993. Wyatt continued his education at Western North Carolina Training Center where he was licensed to preach. Wyatt was also a trained facilitator for Church Revisioning, Development and Redevelopment, Methodist Heritage and Bible study leader, and an assistant director of the Shalom Zone Ministries. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
Wyatt’s ministry involved his civic participation in several agencies and organizations: the Rosa Clark Indigent Care Clinic (chairman), the Summerville Race Relations Committee, the Clover School District Health Committee, and the Low Country Food Bank. Wyatt was a trained HIV/AIDS workshop leader. A long time member of the NAACP, Wyatt served as vice-president of the Williamsburg Branch and chaired the Religious Affairs Committee in the Western York County Branch.
Wyatt married the love of his life Janet at Trinity UMC August 11, 1990, in Camden South Carolina. They have two children Tedrea and Wyatt IV.
Wyatt was ordained in the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1993. Reverend Minton’s commitment to youth was evident in his service to the Annual Youth Conference, the Summerville Elementary Hosts Mentoring Program, the Clover District Lunch Buddy Program, the Oconee County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Council, the Kingstree Junior High Parent Teacher Association (President), School Improvement Council, the Kingstree Junior High, and Pastor As Leaders Mentoring Program at Chavis Elementary School.
Reverend Minton has served as the President of the South Carolina Chapter of Black Methodist for Church Renewal, Chair of the District Board of Ordained Ministry.
Reverend Minton’s appointments included: Western North Carolina Conference Memorial UMC and St. Peter-Ferree’s Chapel UMCs. South Carolina Conference: Seneca Circuit, Joshua, Summerville Parish, Clover(Green Pond-Clover-Chapel-Mt. Harmony) Parish, Faith-Cades, Beaufort(Wesley-Broomfield) Parish, Cheraw (Bethel, Wesley, Mt. Zion) Parish, Mays Chapel, Prospect-Central-Rowesville, Orangeburg, Oswego (Clark-Mt. Moriah-St. Mark) Circuit, and Pineville-St. Stephen, Orangeburg.
Left to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 29 years, Janet Wilson Minton; a daughter, Tedrea Renee (Moncks Corner, SC); a son, Wyatt Clifton (Little Wyatt), IV (Atlanta, GA); a sister, Crystal (Sylvester) Hardy (Stone Mountain, GA); a granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Parker Noelle Grant, a cousin/little brother, Gregory (Crystal) Minnis (Atlanta, GA) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
