Brenda was born on August 23,1952 in Bishopville, South Carolina in Lee County. She was the oldest child born to late Mr. Lemuel James Joe, Sr and Mrs. Lois McDonald Joe. She departed this life on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Prisma Health.
Brenda gave her life to the Lord at an early age, and was baptized at Sardis Baptist Church in Camden, South Carolina. She was educated in the public schools of Kershaw County in Camden, South Carolina and graduated from Camden High School, Class of 1971.
Brenda’s senior year of high school she drove buses for the Kershaw County School District. While driving buses, she met Curtis T. McClester and they started dating. Shortly after dating, the two wed in holy matrimony. From their union they gave birth to two beautiful children, Angela and Victor. Years later, Brenda remarried and birthed her baby girl, Syretta, from her second husband, Harold Toney, Jr.
Brenda began her career at E.I Dupont in Lugoff, South Carolina in 1973 where she worked for 20 years. Brenda worked in the Spinning Department as a “Spinner”. After leaving Dupont, Brenda moved to Columbia, South Carolina and started working for Sam’s Wal-Mart where she worked until she retired.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her brothers, Lemuel James Joe, Jr. and Ronald Joe.
Brenda Joe Toney leaves to cherish her memories three children: two daughters, Angela Denise McClester and Syretta Yolanda Toney of Columbia, SC; one son, Victor Lopez McClester of Lawton, OK; four grandchildren: two grandsons Dantuane L. Wright (Tiffany) and Andrew O. Shelton of Columbia, SC; two granddaughters; Ambree Nicole Armstrong (Damian) of Grayson, of GA and Shaneria Nicole Jeffers of Columbia, SC; one God granddaughter, Cannan Zion McClester; five great-grandchildren; Destinee’, Ayanii and Jhene Armstrong of GA: Danielle Wright and Jayceon Davis of Columbia, SC ;one sister, Shirley Ann Allen of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law, Theodore Allen of Camden, SC; two nephews, LaJuane D. Allen of TN and Marvin Walker of Camden, SC; two nieces, Vonetta Joe and Sharmila Joe of CT; one aunt; Alma McDonald Hogan; a special/first cousin, Geneva Atkinson of Bishopville, SC; childhood friend Virginia Green of Camden, SC; a close friend, Pedro Lopez of New York and a host of cousins, relatives and friends, whom will miss Brenda dearly.
Brenda’s legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire and resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
