Dorothy Adamson

Ms. Dorothy Adamson, daughter of the late Charlie and Daisy Kibler Adamson, was born in Kershaw County, SC on October 6, 1932. She departed this life on January 5, 2024. 

She was educated at Sweet Home School in Kershaw County, SC. At an early age she was converted, baptized, and joined Sweet Home Baptist Church.

In 1955, at the age of 23, she moved to New York and was employed as a caregiver of children for many years. In 2016 she moved back to Camden, SC to be closer to her family. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Janette Adamson; two sons, Leroy Adamson, and Mark Anthony Adamson; two daughters in law: Clarene Sanders Adamson, and Patricia “Cookie” Thomas Adamson; one son in law, Henry Louis Spann, and a special niece, Odessa Bennett.

Those left to cherish her memory are: one son, Wesley Adamson of Camden; five daughters: Geraldine Adamson, Diane Adamson, and Renee Adamson, all of Camden; Barbara A Spann of Lugoff, and Maria Adamson of New York, NY.; 20 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves three special nieces: Edna Johnson, Ann Stover, and Vickie Wood; one special nephew, Charlie Adamson; and a bonus daughter, Charlene “Cece” Green. 

Dorothy was the last of her generation; she was the 12th of 14 children. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Carrie Bell Adamson (Dard Sr) McCoy, Leo (Louise Green) Adamson, Eliza Jane “Boo” Adamson (Melton “Preach”) Eley, Della “T” Adamson (Saul Sr) Brown, James Otis “Jake” (Beulah Chestnut) Kibler, Kib (Grace Williams) Adamson, Johnny (Elouise Cauthen) Adamson, Annie Adamson, Willie Mae Adamson, Louise “Weeza” Adamson, Catherine Adamson (Anthony “Slim”) Eley, James “JK” (Dorothy Brown) Kibler, Lucille Adamson, and David “Daybo” Adamson. Her maternal grandparents were James “Jim” and Martha Outen Kibler and her paternal grandparents were Charles Sr. and Adaline Jones Adamson, all of Kershaw County, SC.
