Eugene was born December 29, 1949, to the late Charles and Jessie Ferguson Goodwin. After a long illness, he departed this life on August 6, 2022, at Prisma Health Toumey Hospital, in Sumter, South Carolina.
Eugene was educated in the public schools of Kershaw County.
He gave his life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, where he served in several ministries.
He retired from the military after serving twenty-two years. He serves as a police officer for years in the City of Camden. His final employment was with Carolina International in Columbia, South Carolina, where he retired. Eugene also loved to do body work and paint trucks.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Goodwin, Sr and Jessie Ferguson Goodwin; a sister, Carolyn Elaine Goodwin; a brother-in-law, Perry Lloyd.
He leaves to cherish his loving and fond memories, his wife of twenty-seven years, Mattie M. Goodwin; a son, Eugene (Apryll) Goodwin, Jr.; a daughter, Keondra (Barry) Brown; his step-children, Robert (April) English, Carolyn (Melvin) Bowman and James (Tanisha) English; five brothers, Thomas Goodwin of New York, Charles (Bertha) Goodwin of Bridgeport, CT, Samuel (Dorothy) Goodwin of Monroe, NC, Robert (Mary) Goodwin and Freddie (Gloria) Goodwin both of Rembert, SC; three sisters, Hattie Johnson of Rembert, SC, Annie (James) sanders of Parkton, NC and Roberta (Carlos) Adams of Camden, SC; fifteen grandchildren and a host great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
