Herbert Francis McClure, 83, peacefully gained his wings on May 10, 2025, in Camden, SC. Mr. Herbert McClure was born to the late Rafel McClure and Daisy Perry in Washington, D.C. He was raised in Camden, SC, by his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Jenkins, and graduated from Jackson High School in the Class of 1961.
Herbert worked at the May Plant in Lugoff, SC (DuPont) for 27 years of service. After retiring from DuPont, he pursued his next adventure in life as a barber, where he managed McClure’s Barbershop for 20+ years. Herbert's passion for life was sports, and he was an active fan and supporter of Camden High School, from football, basketball, to baseball. Herbert also associated himself with baseball in the Camden area by managing the best team in the Mid-Carolina League (The Camden Royals), which won numerous championships. He was also one of the top bowlers in this area, receiving multiple trophies and other accolades for his skills.
Herbert McClure has always been a community leader for Pickett Thomas Acres. He was an active member at Mount Joshua Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend E.L. Sanders, playing an essential part in planning the remodeling of the current church, as well as holding key roles as a Trustee, Choir Member, and Treasurer.
Herbert was a devoted husband to Betty (Lewis) McClure for almost 61 years, his sons and daughters are Tony McClure, Stanley McClure, Sandra Greenstein, and Jennifer Massey, his grandchildren, Jasmine (Davis) King, Davion McClure, Stephanie McClure, Toni McClure, A’Mont Missouri, Malaysia Massey, Zionna Byrd, My’Shia Byrd, Jada Byrd, and Destiny Byrd and a host of great grandchildren—also, a living sister, Shirley Asgarali, and a living aunt, Catherine (McClure) Garrison.
