Jamaica Trevett Bennett Hopkins departed this life after a brief illness at the Lexington Medical Center, Lexington, South Carolina on March 5, 2024. Jamaica, affectionally known as “Maica”, was born on February 2, 1977, to the late Deacon James A. Bennett and Mrs. Vivian Bennett.
Preceding her in death are her father and her grandparents. Jamaica graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1995, she furthered her studies at Winthrop University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the Mu Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Jamaica joined Union Baptist Church of Rembert, South Carolina at an early age where she sang on the choir and involved herself where she was needed. After marriage, Jamaica and her family relocated to Elgin, South Carolina and became members of First Northeast Baptist Church in
Columbia, South Carolina.
Jamaica was calm and very helpful to whomever needed her assistance. Her joy and favorite past time was planning special events and shopping with her family. She also loved watching the Atlanta Braves with family and friends. Throughout her life, Jamaica was employed by Metlife, Kohl’s, Seibles & Bruce Group, Inc., and most recently Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
Jamaica leaves with heavy hearts her husband of 11 years, Brenton Hopkins, Sr., daughter, Brilyn Hopkins; stepdaughter Britnee Hopkins; and stepson Brenton Hopkins, Jr., her mother, Vivian Bennett; brother, Kison Bennett (Tangnakika); and nieces, Jordyn and Kaitlyn. She also leaves behind three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many uncles, aunts, close cousins, and friends.
