James A. Fowler was born on July 4, 1955, in Plainfield, New Jersey. He was the first-born son of the Late Reverend Isaiah and Deaconess Allena Fowler. Thirty-two minutes later, his fraternal twin brother, John B. Fowler was born. These babies were welcomed into a family that was ecstatically happy, excited, and delighted with God’s gifts. James passed on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 after an extremely excruciating, painful brutal battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Although he fought to live, he told his doctor that he was accepting whatever God has in store for his life.
He grew up with his parents, his twin and three sisters. James began his educational career in Scotch Plains NJ School District, and ended his public-school career at Plainfield High School, Plainfield NJ. James had a love for higher learning. He graduated from Kean University, Union NJ with a BA degree in Social Work. He was devoted to any community in need of advancing human rights, social economic and environmental justice.
James was charismatic, lively, fun-loving, caring and hilariously funny. He enjoyed living life on a grand scale. His vibrant personality touched many lives. He worked double and triple shifts in his last months. He wanted to move into a place of his dreams. He has moved on to Glory, and he now knows a wellness not achieved on this side of eternity.
James will be dearly and sorely missed. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Isaiah and Allena Fowler, his twin brother John, a nephew Mikkel “Mike” Isaiah Scott. He is survived by his children, a son, James Fowler II (Erica); a daughter Allena Fowler-Sabbatino and two grandsons Isaiah and Ethan Fowler, three sisters Allena E. Ross (Earl), Naomi Fowler-Scott, and Ruth Fowler, a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. James’s memory reminds us of the power of service and the importance of cherishing every moment. May you rest in peace our beloved brother.
