James Bernard “Bip” Slater was born on July 17, 1972, in Rembert, South Carolina, to the late James Slater and Brenda Ransom Slater.
He attended Lee County Public Schools and graduated from Bishopville, High School in 1990. Bernard received his Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and Communication from Columbia Junior College. James worked at UTI, Haier and Grace and Mercy Home Health Care. Bernard loved his family and his community.
“Bip” was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda R. Slater; his father, James Slater; his grandmother, Eva Mae Ransom and a uncle, Marion “Buddy” Ransom.
Bernard leaves cherish his loving memory his loving wife, Vanessa Slater; step-daughter, Nancy Salmond of Camden, SC; his sister, LaTisha (DeAndre) Jenkins of Rembert, SC; grandfather, Marion Ransom of Rembert, SC; uncles, Robert Ransom and Mack (Della) Ransom both of Rembert, SC; his aunts, Emma (Dale) Nelson and Joyce (Anthony) Simon both of Rembert, SC; a niece, Antonia Dinkins of Upper Marlboro, MD; two brothers-in-law, Leon Salmond, Jr. of Oxon Hill, MD and Isaac (Theresa) Salmond of Camden, SC and a host of cousins, family members and friends.
