Mr. Leon David Haggins was born on September 2, 1968, to the late Louise Haggins and Purdy Hough III in Bethune, SC. Leon took his eternal rest after a long illness on March 27, 2024 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC.
Leon was educated in the Kershaw County School system and graduated from Bethune High School in 1987, where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. Leon was the life of the part and enjoyed time with family and friends. He love to fish and cook. As a young child Leon gained many names which matched his many ways. He was known to family and friends as “Popeye”, “8-Ball”, and “Slick”.
Leon was preceded in death his parents, maternal grand parents, and paternal grand parents.
Leon leaves to cherish his memory and to continue on one son, Delvontai Drakeford of Fort Liberty, NC; two sisters, Pamela (Anthony) Hough of South Congaree, SC and Alma (William) Jennings of Jefferson SC; one stepbrother, Timothy Harrison of Bethune, SC; one stepsister, Teresa Haggins of Camden, SC; three nieces, Opal (Dewayne) Ponds of McBee SC, Quadra Jennings of Huntington, WV and Hazia Bethea of South Congaree, SC; one nephew, Trae Jennings, of Chester, VA; two great nieces, De’Asia and De’Amber Ponds both of McBee, SC; one great nephew, DeVarius Ponds of McBee, SC, De’Amber was known to him as “Lil Bit” amd she held a special place in his heart; five uncles, Henry Martin of Columbia, SC, Theodore Brown of Patterson, NJ, Isaiah (Indra) Hough of Bethune, SC, Marion (Jacqueline) Hough of Raleigh, NC and Timothy (Bonita) Davis of West Columbia, SC; five aunts, Jessie Haggins of Bethune, SC, Minnie Owens of Bethune, SC, Helen Phillips of McBee, SC, Vera (Ronnie) Harmon of Goldsboro, SC and Thomasina Brown of Conway, SC and a host of other relatives and friends.
