Lessie M. Byrd, daughter of the late Edward and Hattie Holiday was born June 8, 1938 in Lee County and departed this life on September 7, 2021, at MUSC KershawHealth in Camden, South Carolina.
Lessie was raised in a loving Christian home. She attended public school in Lee County. She moved to Florida at an early age. After some years, she then moved to White Plains, New York, where she lived for almost thirty years. She was a faithful member of Allen AME in New York. She moved back to South Carolina in 2007, where she resided with her sister and brother. She rejoined Pine Grove AME Church where she became a member of the Senior Choir for several years. She loved attending church school and she was a big fan of the TEMPTATIONS and “My Girl” was her favorite song.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Lee Holiday and two sisters, Louise English and Dorothy Cunningham.
Lessie leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Beverly (Herbert) Rufus of Rembert, SC and Jackie Williams of Orlando, FL; one son, Larry (Elizabeth) Holiday of Elgin, SC; two sisters, Earnestine (Kim) Thomas of White Plains, NY and Gladys Allen of the home; three brothers, Edward Holiday of New Jersey, Robert Holiday of Rembert, SC and Hanzel Holiday of the home; five grandchildren, Darrell, Justin, Jarred, Brandon and Cory; nine great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Ms. Gertrude Ransom of Rembert, SC; a very special cousin, Bobbie Green of Lansing, MI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she loved.
Lessie loved her family very much and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.
