Mae Rochella Jonhnson (affectionally known as “Bookie”) was born June 4, 1961, to the late Joseph and Minnie Lee Thomas of Camden, South Carolina. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Rochella was immensely relevant to Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Minnie Lee Thomas as the First born, to her maternal grandmother (Willie Mae Johnson) as her first grandchild and to her siblings. Five sons, great young men and three nephews who benefited from Rochella: Love and affection-nurturing.
What was immensely important to her was her sons, nephews, and their families as she demonstrated her love by financial support, baby-sitting, supporting their sports endeavors for example as to travel to home and away games. She also travelled as far as Duncan, SC, Minnesota, Las Vegas, and Texas to football bowl games.
Rochella relevance extended to her daughters-in-law, grandchildren, siblings, her many, many friends and of course to her brother-in-law.
Rochella was proud of her extended family, as proof she would text photos and I mean many, many photos and shared what vacations and their achievements with such pride.
Relevant to Barry, Sheila, and Drucilla, her five outstanding athletic sons (Antonio, Ryan, Marvin, Marlon, and Roland), nephews, grandchildren, her support was steadfast. I would say to our family the chain is broken but God does not make a mistake and I am convinced that Rochella is resting in peace with our almighty God and smiling with pride at all who are here to celebrate her homegoing. Relevant-absolutely to God, family, friends, and community.
Those left to cherish her fond memories are five sons; Antonio (Ramona) Johnson of Atlanta Georgia, Ryan (Erica) Johnson Camden, SC, Marvin (Krystal) Johnson of Pageland, SC, Marlon Williams of Camden, SC, and Roland (Anita) Johnson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; one brother, Barry Thomas of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Sheila (Ed) Baker of Camden, SC and Drucilla Jefferson of Charlotte, NC; three nephews, Terence Thomas of Columbia, SC, Travis (Kenyatta) of Cassatt, SC, and Trevor Jefferson of Camden, SC; fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandson, a special sister Frances Tillman (Lavern) Peeples, a special friend Vanessa Harrison Chestnut, a special friend Tori Harrison Alexander, a special cousin Diane Miller and a host of other relatives and friends.
