On July 29, 1951, in Camden, South Carolina, the late Mr. Sammie Thomas, Sr. and Mrs. Florie Richardson Thomas, gave birth to a daughter which they named Margie Anita. Margie was the fourth of six children born to this couple.
After completing elementary and middle school, Margie graduated from Jackson High School in 1969. After graduation she moved to New York where she lived and worked for AT&T for ten years. After ten years, she returned to Camden, SC and continued to work for AT&T as a dispatcher until her retirement in 2008.
In 1986, Margie married the late Stanley G. Cooke, and to this union they were blessed with a precious daughter whom they named Staci Victoria. Even though they later divorced, Staci was the love of their lives.
Margie was an avid reader who also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and close friends. On August 12, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, God called Margie home after an extended illness. There to welcome her home were her parents, the late Sammie Sr. and Florie Richardson Thomas, and her brothers, Sammie Thomas, Jr. and George Thomas.
Those who will cherish her memory are her daughter, Staci V. Cooke, sisters Lorraine Thomas (Camden, SC) and Christine Evans (Savannah, GA), her brother Reginald Thomas (Scottsdale, AZ), sister in law Barbara Thomas (Stonecrest, GA) and her dearest friends Shirley Lawhorn, Grace Smith, and Deborah Moody, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
