Mrs. Phyllis Marie Salmond Brevard, also known as “Tuffy,” was born on July 24, 1956. She peacefully transitioned from Earth to glory on May 4, 2021.
Phyllis received her formal education in the Kershaw County Public Schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Greater Faith and Joy Tabernacle Church, where she serve as a Sunday School Teacher and Usher until her health began declining.
Tuffy had a love for many things in her life, however, nothing could compare to the love she had for her family, friends and the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a strong supporter for her church, family, children and grandchildren. Tuffy has a passion for helping others in any need. She enjoyed her years spent with the children at the Head Start in Norwalk, Connecticut, making a difference in every life she encountered. She instilled many values in her children and grandchildren with the most important being love. She loved everyone she encountered and everyone loved her.
After returning to Camden, South Carolina, Tuffy fell I love with a life long friend, Harold Brevard, who she later married and remained in love with until God called her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Mae Murphy and Johnny Wilson; a daughter, Ariel Elaine Salmond; a grandson, John Wesley Lee, III; five brothers, Robert “Peter” Salmond, James “Tash” Salmond, David “Snakeye” Salmond, Henry “Mike” Salmond and Willie “Bill” Salmond; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Salmond and Beulah Darwin; one aunt and five uncles.
Tuffy leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Harold Brevard; two sons, Marlon Salmond and Rico Salmond both of Camden, SC; two daughters, Shiara (Frank) Edwards and Latasha (John) Lee both of Camden, SC; four sisters, Margie “Ann” Favor, Geneva Brunson, Roberta Salmond and Inez Brown all of Camden, SC; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Brevard and Bessie Robertson; her special friends, Nichelle Drakeford, Patricia Arms, Teddy Nelson, Paula Weldon, Zina Alexander and Judy McMillian; fifteen grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
