Richard Jackson Obituary

Richard Craig "Rooster" Jackson humbly bowed to God's will, then peacefully and quietly entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 1, 2024, at his home in Camden, South Carolina.  Richard was born August 13, 1957, the son of late Hattie Jackson Scarborough,

He received his primary education in the Kershaw County School District, and he completed his high school education in Mount Vernon, New York.

Richard had his early religious training at Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church in Camden, South Carolina. He was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY, and then later returned home to Ebenezer to rejoin his church family.

Richard retired from JCC of Mid-Westchester, Scarsdale, New York, after thirty-five years of service. He also worked within the Kershaw County School District, and at Kershaw County Hospital.

Richard loved to fish and shoot pool with his "brothers" and his cousin Phil (who hosted their Friday night events).

Richard entered total bliss uniting in marriage to his soulmate, Peggy (Booker) Jackson on July 7, 2000. Part of the reason she fell in love with "Rooster" was because of his moves on the dance floor.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie and two brothers, Norris and Kenny.

Richard is survived by his wife, Peggy (Booker) Jackson of Camden, SC; his son, Jamal Nash of Poughkeepsie, NY; six grandchildren; two brothers, David of Bridgeport, CT and Eric "Turtle"of Mt. Vernon, NY; a step-daughter, Toki (Booker) Simmons (husband, Donald Simmons) of Orangeburg, SC, daughter, Shakina (Booker) Dandridge of Stamford, CT; son, Anthony McEachin, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, NY; one aunt who was special to his heart, Carol Thompson, a special friend, Greg Thomas and many cousins far and near, who Richard recognized more as brothers, and many nieces, nephews and  cherished friends.
