Mr. Robert Lee Drakeford Sr. was born, July 28, 1937. He departed this life on August 21, 2023, after an extended illness. Mr. Drakeford was the son of the late Seegars Drakeford and Luella Harris Drakeford.
He became a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Heath Springs, South Carolina at a early age. He later married Irene Bracey Drakeford. In addition, he formed and sang with the Gospel Stars for twelve years.
He was preceded in death by one son, George Washington Drakeford; two brothers, Cleveland Drakeford and Richard Drakeford; four sisters, Nannie, Lottie, Carrie and Bessie.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Drakeford; one son, Robert Lee Drakeford, Jr. of Columbia, SC; three daughters, Louise Drakeford Jones of Camden, SC, Essie Carter (Robert) of Heath Springs, SC, and Stacey Drakeford of Camden, SC; eleven grandchildren, Keith Montgomery Jr, Tameka Montgomery, Quentin Drakeford, Veronica Carter, Alessia Bennett, Robert Denzel Drakeford, Stefan Bennett, Markeis Barnes, Robert W. Carter, Angel Drakeford, and Patrick Carter; nine great grandchildren, Jada Izzard, Alonzo Izzard, Keith Anthony Montgomery III, Layla Montgomery, Corey Boyles, Jr., Jaxson Montgomery, Shy’kell Jackson, Jr., Shy’tasia Jackson, and Jai’kell Jackson; one brother-in-law, Clyde Bracey of Patterson, NJ; one sister-in-law, Mae Ella Drakeford of Bennettsville, SC and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
