Robert Lee Parker, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home on May 10, 2024.
He was born February 20, 1939 in Birmingham, AL, the son of the late Roman Parker and the late Helen Collier.
Robert attended Parker High School in Birmingham, AL, class of 1957. He accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 17 and was baptized at Oak Street Baptist Church. He started his career at Highland Baptist Hospital in Birmingham as an assistant chef, later marrying and relocating to Hackensack, NJ. After working various jobs, he spent the majority of his career working as a security officer at Hackensack Medical Center where he retired in 2009.
He relocated to Camden, SC after retirement and married Mary Anderson in 2017.
Robert had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. He loved to tell jokes, communicated well with others, and was always dressed to impress and groomed to perfection. He loved his family and spending time with them all. In addition, he formed strong ties with healthcare personnel, many of whom kept in touch long after caring for him during his illness and treatment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jacqueline D. Parker, stepson Kenneth Anderson, brothers Irvin Hall and Alfonso Collier.
He leaves to cherish his memories, wife Mary A. Parker, daughter Roberta Parker Fallen (Destry), sons Robert L. Parker Jr. (Vivian) and Lavar A. Parker (Latoya), grandchildren; Sheala L. Harvey, Morgan A. Strahorn, Sydney Fallen, Alexis A. Parker, Jonathan R. Parker, Myles J. Parker, Fabian Gonzalez, great-grandchild Saniah J. Harvey, sisters Rev. Eva Gilmore and Brenda Dennis, brothers; Isaiah Parker (Elaine), Lonzie Collier, Gerald Collier, sisters-in-law Minnie Jones and Ruby Lawhorn (Melvin), brothers-in-law Jimmie Jones and George Jones (Sylvia), step grandchildren Shantise Byrd (Quester) and Kennyatta Anderson, along with a host of extended family members, other relatives, and loving friends.
