Tiller G. Keitt, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Camden, South Carolina on August 17, 1951, to the late Minnie Green Samuel and Grover Lyles, Sr. She was raised by her late maternal grandparents, Mattie and Abram Green in Reading, Pennsylvania.
As a teenager, Tiller moved back to Elgin, SC where she was educated in the Kershaw County public schools. She worked in manufacturing for over two and a half decades and was known for her warmth, laughter, and generosity. Her infectious laugh, humility, and cheerful presence made her a beloved figure in the community. She dedicated her life to her family and friends, always ready to listen, offer words of wisdom, and share a cheerful banter.
Tiller had a deep passion for gardening and found joy in spending time outdoors, showcasing her green thumb; and her love of gospel music, especially Shirley Caesar.
Tiller’s life was marked by the profound impact she had on everyone she met. Her presence alone brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. Anyone fortunate enough to have known her will never forget the unforgettable encounter they shared.
Tiller is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jackie Keitt; son, Troy Keitt, Sr.; grandson, Eric Hollis,Jr.; and four siblings Thomas Green, Grover Lyles, Jr., Doris Stuckey and Sandra Alexander.
Tiller, a source of love, faith, and unwavering compassion, leaves behind a legacy of memories to be cherished by her doting family. She is survived by her siblings: Lola Sneed (Donnie), Jacqueline Williams (Robert), James Green, Frances Vaughan (Percy), Thomas Samuel, all of Camden, SC; John Samuel, Jr. of Winnsboro, SC; and Dorothy Jones (Earnest) of Columbia, SC. She also survived by her four children: Antonio Green (Danita) of Columbia, SC, Jackie O’Brian Green (Sonja) of Fayetteville, NC; Rosetta K. Evans (Ronell) of Columbia, SC, Makeitha Keitt, Cassatt, SC; and honorary son Troy Wise (Teresa) of Columbia, SC; Sixteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her beloved Chihuahua & companion, Bella.
Mom, grandma, sister, friend; you will forever live in our hearts. We know that earth has no sorrow that God cannot handle. We love you so much, but God loves you best. We humbly bid you farewell, until we meet again.
