Valerie Grant Obituary

Valerie Elaine Grant, was born in Camden, South Carolina on October 24, 1963. She was the youngest daughter of the late Elisha, Sr. and Maloyce McLeod Grant. As a member of a loving Christian family, Valerie was baptized and became an active member of the St. Matthew United Methodist church at an early age. Her service to the church and community continued and intensified throughout her life.

Valerie’s faithful service included serving as church treasurer, financial secretary, usher & she was also a member of the United Methodist Women. Valerie was a dedicated member of the Twelve Tribes of Israel Tribe Number One. She served as the chairperson of the East Camden Community of Shalom & served on the Wateree Community Actions policy council. She also worked with Kershaw County Relay for Life.  Valerie attended the Kershaw County School System, graduating from Camden High in 1981 and was involved in several extracurricular activities. She attended and graduated from South Carolina State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1985.  This unique skill enabled her to serve numerous organizations and identified her as an indispensable asset to many.

Valerie’s professional life included working for the State of South Carolina and also the FDIC in Richmond, VA. In her spare time, she was an auditor, tax preparer, chauffeur, coach, cook, fund-raiser, cheerleader, tutor, etc...for her five heartbeats & other members of the community.

Valerie’s life is best described as one of generosity and service to others. Her sweet, loving disposition and warm smile brought out the best in all those around her, and her dedication to friends and family created a feeling of goodwill in everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her oldest brother, Elisha Grant, Jr. 

She leaves to cherish her legacy, a loving sister, Betty Grant of Camden, SC; an adoring brother, Ronnie Grant of Camden, SC; a sister-in-law, Mattie Grant; great nieces & nephews of the home, Taylor, Jason, Maggie, Nigel and Eli Grant all of Camden, SC; an aunt, Mabel Ellis of Camden, SC; an uncle, Theodore Blair of Rosedale, NY and a host of nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and special friends.
