Virginia Mitchell Obituary

Virginia Marie Mitchell was born on Friday, April 12, 1940, in Camden, South Carolina, and transitioned from this earthly life at the age of 84 on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Virginia’s mother, the late Ms. Louise “Mozelle” Ferguson, affectionately called her only daughter and first born of four children, “Muncie Toolie.”  Smiling, happy, pleasant, and playful, Muncie thrived and developed into a beautiful, loving, hard-working and kind young woman. Her three brothers of the home adored their big sister. Like a second mother to her siblings, Muncie loved, cared for and kept them close to her heart. At an early age, she could cook, clean, decorate, and discipline like a pro. In return, she was loved, respected, protected, and revered by her brothers, cousins, friends, and community.

Eager to make a difference and help her family, Muncie held several jobs while completing her education in the Kershaw County School system. Muncie had a wonderful combination of sweetness and toughness that attracted her to many. Her work ethics were impeccable. Loyal, dependable, and focused on details, Virginiaalways gave her very best, and as an employee, she was often highly loved and sought after by employers. While a hard worker, Virginia loved people and made many friends, young and old, and young and old loved her.  She served and retired proudly as a Kershaw County Memorial Hospital Employee with over thirty years caring for others and devotion to working on the Karesh Wing for the elderly.

While work was an important part of Virginia’s life, her family and friends were her world. At an early age, mutual friendship and admiration blossomed into love, and Virginia married the love of her life, Leroy Mitchell. To this union, a baby boy who died at birth, wascreated. Due to this loss, Virginia was called to always do her civic duty and volunteered religiously for causes such as The March of Dimes. Years later, to Virginia and Leroy’s delight, a healthydaughter, Brenda, was born. Brenda felt blessed to have Virginia as her mother and credited her with making her the person that she is today.

With her husband’s military assignments, she and her family enjoyed traveling and adventures throughout the states and Europe, returning to Camden in the mid seventies.

Virginia always wanted four children, and a blessing was bestowed upon her and Leroy in the late 80’s when her youngest brother’s two children, Jarrad and Danielle, came to live with her and Leroy. What a joy.

Faith was paramount in Virginia’s life. Early in life, Virginia found her joy in the Lord, and she experienced that old time religion with a baptism in the river at St. John’s Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined other relatives and became a devoted and loving member of St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church. Oh how Virginia loved to fellowship with friends and family at St. Stephens and in the House of the Lord.

Virginia loved people, and she took great delight in doing all that she could to help everyone. Virginia impacted the lives of her family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers, and they loved and appreciated her. Left to fondly cherish Mrs. Virginia Marie Mitchell’s memories are her loving daughters, Brenda (Willie) Peters of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Danielle (Marcus) Hayes of Charlotte, North Carolina; her son, Jarrad Ferguson; granddaughter, Burgundy (Nicholas) Masterson of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandsons, Willie (LaTina) Peters, III of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Cory (Kaitlin) Peters of Acworth, Georgia, and Collin Peters of Atlanta, Georgia. Nephew: Marcel (Rosalind) Ferguson. Virginia will also be missed by her loving and devoted extended family including Ms. Martha Halley, Laura Carnegie, Isaac Brown, her cousins, the Jones’ Family, her great-grandchildren, grandnieces, nephews, as well as a host of friends who feel like family.

Virginia understood the importance of having the right to vote, and she always proudly did her civic duty. In her loving memory and honor, please vote.
